Hallway Chronicles: Ben Milliken

Q: You have a big game in just a few hours. What is your pregame ritual?

A: I go to McAlister’s for lunch every time. [Today] I even got permission to go to my prefect meeting late. I drink four bottles of aloe water. And I just listen to music on the bus… electronic music.
Q: What is your favorite part about soccer? Why?

A: I think […] the soccer team at Berkeley is probably the most fun team I have ever played with. The dynamic of the team is just a ton of fun.

Q: What has been your favorite moment of your entire high school career and why?

A: The district championship this past Friday. It was awesome to beat our rivals in my last district championship ever with tons of fans at the game.

Q: Explain the shaved head ceremony [the Boys Varsity Soccer Team’s tradition of shaving their heads at the beginning of the season].

A: I don’t know how it started, but I remember six years ago my brother came home from school with a buzz cut the day he made varsity. It’s been a tradition for a long time.

Q: What’s your most dreaded moment during a game?

A: Having a 1-0 lead as the game comes to an end—in the final moments of a game.

Q: If you could be any type of pasta, what kind would you be and why?

A: Bowtie, because I’m classy.

Q: What else are you involved in?

A: Right now I’m coaching a Special Olympics soccer team with Jared Shimberg in Plant City, and of course, Tampa Textbook Trader.

Q: If you could eat lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be?

A: Michio Kaku… He’s a theoretical physicist.

Q: What is your favorite color and why?

A: Definitely blue, for obvious reasons.
