Hallway Chronicles: Ethan Franzblau
Returning Freshman
Returning Berkeley freshman Ethan Franzblau is excited for high school, but also anxious about the challenges it presents.
Q: Going from middle school to high school’s a big transition. What are you most nervous about?
A: Honors Bio, [I’ve heard] that it’s a hard class and [Dr. Kline] is a hard teacher.
Q: What’re you most excited for in high school?
A: The Café. It has good food [and] lots of variety. Much better than Gills Hall.
Q: What do you think about the long lines at the Café?
A: They’re not good. They need to come up with a system so that not everyone tries to get in line at the same time.
Q: What sports do you do?
A: Swimming, it’s good exercise. And I water ski in the bay. It’s fun and challenging.
Q: Are you planning to do clubs in the UD?
A: Yeah, French club. I’m in Honors III [because] I skipped a level.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about the Berkeley community?
A: I think the language department is the best. [I hope] to be in the French Honor Society.
Q: What’s your favorite book?
A: Green Eggs and Ham, it’s very complex and has lots of hidden meanings that apply to my life.
Ethan ended our interview with a quick “Go Bucs!” before heading off to swim practice. With kids like Ethan involved in challenging classes, sports and clubs, the freshmen class is sure to fit right in into the Upper Division!
