Hallway Chronicles: Danielle Carolan
New Freshman
Freshman Danielle Carolan is new to Berkeley, but she’s actually pretty well known from running a popular YouTube channel specializing in makeup tutorials that has garnered almost 37,000 subscribers.
Q: Are you nervous about anything starting freshman year?
A: I was nervous to begin with. But since Berkeley has so many different things where you can meet all the freshmen, the first day isn’t that hard.
Q: Are you excited about anything in particular?
A: I’m excited just to meet new people and to have new opportunities.
Q: We’ve heard you run a pretty successful YouTube channel. How’d you get started with that?
A: Like three years ago I [wanted] to make fun videos and I found the beauty community, and I was like “I wanna do that!”
Q: Would you consider yourself “YouTube famous”?
A: I don’t like to call myself that but a lot of people say that to me like “You’re YouTube famous!” But it’s pretty cool because I’ll be at the mall and people will be like “Are you themakeup-bydanielle?” or like take pictures and stuff.
Q: What does running you YouTube channel entail?
A: I try to post at least once a week. First you gotta make the video…edit it, then you have to upload it, respond to comments.
Q: Do you get to interact with your fan base through comments?
A: Yeah, it’s really fun to get to know them. It’s really inspiring for me.
Though she’s new to Berkeley with her charm and enthusiasm, Danielle is sure to shine on campus!
