Berkeley Hosts ARS National Hoopfest
This past weekend, Berkeley hosted the ARS National Hoopfest, with some of the best teams in the country coming to play at our very own Straz Family Field House. As Upper Division Athletic Director Bobby Reinhart said, “showcas[ing] some of the best teams and players both nationally and locally in the friendly confines of the Straz Family Field House led to nothing but compliments by all fans and event officials.” Teams at Berkeley this past weekend included Tampa Prep, Oldsmar Christian, Victory Rock and Memphis Southwind.
The Buccaneers had mixed outcomes at the Hoopfest this year. On Friday, Oldsmar Christian had a commanding victory over Berkeley, winning 81-43. Nonetheless, the Bucs managed to overcome this defeat on Saturday, narrowly beating out Memphis Southwind 54-51. “Kaleeyl Findlay [‘17] earned game MVP honors scoring another double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds,” said Reinhart. Jacob Mathis ‘16 also added 11 points and Riley Graham ‘16, Kaleb Karnes ‘18 and Casey Constant ‘18 scored 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The game lead was extended to three when Davis Koetter ‘17 went 2-2 at the free throw line with only 10 seconds left in the game. “It was a great team-win,” said Reinhart, adding that it was much-needed and well-earned after Friday’s sound defeat.
