Behind the Fall Play
Advanced Theatre Ensemble’s fall play, Alice vs. Wonderland, opens tonight at 7 o’clock! There’s something different about this play, however. Shrouded in mystery, details of the play remain a secret to students and faculty members. Advanced Theatre Ensemble actress, Morgan Alexander ‘16, sheds some light on this new retelling of a classic tale.
According to Alexander, this play is “short, funny and really funny,” and is “like Alice in Wonderland except weirder. It’s a weird version of a weird story.” A weirder version of Alice in Wonderland – is that even possible? While the Tim Burton version was a little dark, we should expected a lighter mood from this play, explains Alexander: “It’s more good-feeling. [ATE] wrote an ending that wraps [the play] together and puts a deeper meaning to it.”
Many students have also noticed the neon-green painted stage of the Lykes Center This was no l accident. Rather, it was a deliberate action to incorporate a new green screen which will undoubtedly bring the world of Wonderland to life. Alexander spills the beans on the alternative background piece (without revealing too much, of course), “The green screen takes certain projections which make up for a set and there are set pieces that fill in.”
Alexander adds something else about the play that we non-performers may not have known: “It’s a play with music. There’s some singing and dancing and really good costumes.” We can look forward to an unconventional play with a new and unusual set; students will surely be tapping their feet and humming the musical numbers on Monday.
Showtimes are tonight at 7:00, Friday at 4:30 and 7:30 and Saturday at 7:30.
Prepare for the unexpected, the hilarious and the weird in Advanced Theatre’s Alice vs. Wonderland.
