Pep Rally Builds Excitement

Berkeley students gather to get excited for Saturday’s annual Headmasters’ Challenge.

On Jan. 6, 2017, all the student of Berkeley Preparatory School gathered for a pep rally in the Straz building prior to Headmasters’ Challenge at Berkeley the following day. All sports participating had their captains come down and the students practiced different cheers for Saturday’s games. The Jolly Rogers promised a surprise on Thursday and they delivered with blue and white pom-poms for all in attendance.

  • I PLEDGE ALLEIGANCE: Like the start of all convos the pep rally began with a reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. At Headmasters’ Challenge Berkeley played the national anthem at all games.

  • FRESHMEN SPIRT: (from left) Aryana Hashemian ’20, Emily Barron ’20, Haley-Kate Kemmish ’20 and Hope Urbanovsky ’20 passed out pom-poms to all students for extra school spirit. The girls are members of Upper Division’s spirit club.

  • SAY CHEESE: (from left) Elizabeth Jarvie ’20, Esha Bhatia ’20, Nadia Sadanandan ’20 and Kayla McLoone ’20 smile brightly as they ring in the new semester with pom-poms .

  • LET’S GO BUCS: Bucky surprises the crowd at all school convo to help them get off their feet and cheer. At this all-school convo Richard Shao ’19 was the man inside the Bucky costume.

  • LOUDER: Jesse Potts ‘17 and Maria Rios ‘17 chant and cheer when the new Headmasters’ Challenge video is announced. This was the seniors’ last Headmasters’ Challenge, though many alumni come back to watch the games.

  • KEEP THE CUP: As the crowd chants “keep the cup”, Headmaster Seivold proudly bears the trophy. Headmaster Seivold expresses his enthusiasm about the fun tradition of competition between Berkeley Prep and Tampa Prep.

  • POM-POMS: As cheers are shouted and chants are sung, lower division students eagerly shake their pom-poms in a blur of blue and white. While Middle and Upper Division students are the competitors in the Headmasters’ Challenge, many Lower Division students come to cheer their friends and family on.

  • LET’S PLAY: (from left) Clara Jergins ’20 and Jacqueline Hennecke ’20 get ready to participate in the Battle of the Bucs, an Upper Division competition following the all-school convocation. Activities include: Treasure Hunt, Dodgeball and shooting hoops.
