Tough Luck for Berkeley Bucs on Homecoming Game Night
It was a tough game for Berkeley’s varsity football team on Homecoming night against the Steinbrenner High School (SHS) football team. Despite numerous efforts by dedicated and impressive players including free safety, Addison Grams ’16, quarterback, Davis Koetter ’17 and wide receiver, Jacob Mathis ’16, the Bucs were no match against Steinbrenner, losing 35-42, with only two touchdowns away from a victory.
Fullback Mateo Estrada ‘19 and fellow freshman and varsity football player, defensive back Adam Hutchinson, said that there were many mental and physical mistakes made out in the field which could have easily been avoided. “We started off strong overall but couldn’t get it done,” said Hutchinson. He also said that executing better drops and tackles, as well as paying more attention to details in their techniques, could have potentially led to a successful win that night.
Alongside free safety, Zachary McCarron-Mathis ’18, everyone agreed that with more training and harder work in practice, the varsity football team can ensure many future victories.
