Recently, American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams released a deluxe edition to her widely popular album The Secret of Us. The “I Love You, I’m Sorry” singer adds four new incredible songs to the existing tracklist, which add a whole new depth and truly transform the album.
In her song “Cool,” Abrams expresses her frustration and irritation towards a guy who has wronged her, and shows her current indifference towards him with the lyrics “Now I’m so cool.” Throughout the song, she name-drops multiple real-life people associated with the dra …,llna, a technique that personalizes the song to her own life.
“I Told You Things” is an emotional ballad about how she may have opened up too much in a relationship, which may have been the reason she was left behind. She regrets sharing secrets she would not have shared with anyone else and oversharing her personal experiences.
Perhaps the highlight of the deluxe album, “That’s So True” is an energetic, fast-paced track. The bridge is frantic and wild, and has gained huge popularity for its fun and lighthearted nature. The song was previously debuted during a live show, and quickly became a fan favorite leading to anticipation up to its release. Abrams seems to be singing whatever comes to mind, and the lyrics are scattered and slightly random.
Unlike the majority of the tracks in The Secret of Us, “Packing it Up” is unique because it is about finding love as opposed to heartbreak. The song is about finding love when least expected and is extremely tender and heartfelt. Abrams demonstrates an exquisite talent for translating specific emotions into her songs.
