“I’ve always loved to read,” said Megan Toy. Toy serves as a ninth grade English teacher as well as an Academic Dean. She grew up in Maryland and lived there for the majority of her life before moving to Florida. Her husband, Jason Toy, also teaches at Berkeley in the History and Religious Studies department.

“Everyone has been super welcoming and super helpful,” said Toy.

A FRESH START: Megan Toy discusses her excitement of being a new Academic Dean and Ninth Grade English teacher.

Although Toy has loved English and reading for as long as she could remember, she didn’t realize her passion for teaching until college. She mentioned the amazing teachers and mentors that made her want to pursue a career in education. When asked which of her two jobs she likes better, Toy said, “It’s like comparing apples and oranges, but if I had to pick one, I’d probably say being a teacher, only because my passion is reading and writing.”

When she’s not teaching, Toy enjoys visiting Disney World, going to the beach and exploring her new home, Florida. She encouraged students to stop by her office, located in the college counseling offices of the Gries Center for the Arts and Sciences.

“My door is always open, I’m the first office and I have candy!”
