Buccaneer Football Strikes the Right Balance

Almost halfway through the season the Bucs appear to have found their rhythm on both sides of the ball.

The Buccaneer football team has started the year strong. Davis Koetter has run the offense with a steady hand, protected by a stout offensive line anchored by Nick Petit-Frere. The Bucs have also capitalized on the explosiveness and versatility of running back Gordon Stetson. Stetson has not only delivered on the ground, but has been a dual threat as well, catching critical passes out of the backfield. Stetson leads the Bucs in all purpose yards. The defense has also proven to be a problem for their opponents with a fearsome pass rush led by sack leader Sandro Maxwell. The pressure placed on opposing quarterbacks has resulted in a number of interceptions by their opportunistic secondary. This strength was highlighted against Cardinal Mooney, as Zach Mayes had three interceptions, including the game-clinching one in the final minute.

The Bucs continue their season with their next home game on Friday October 7th against Triumph Christian Academy. In their last home game against Admiral Farragut, the Bucs fed off the energy of the home crowd to pitch a shutout against the Blue Jackets, winning by a score of 10-0. This season takes on special significance for Coach Dominick Ciao, as he is a mere two wins away from his landmark 200th win as the Berkeley football head coach.
