GOALS is a club here at Berkeley that stands for Girls Outside Adventure Leadership and Service. In this club, we go on educational and fun adventures with middle school girls from RCMA, such as this self defense trip! We instruct the girls on how to go through middle school and high school to hopefully one day attend college. We do this by teaching them studying, interviewing and leadership skills. During this event, the girls learned valuable lessons of self-defense and how to protect themselves if they were in that situation.

  • DON’T MESS WITH ME: The girls from the self defense class pass the final test by escaping from their imaginary attacker.

  • DIRTY BOXER: One of the RCMA girls is practicing the “Dirty Boxer” self defense move. Yes, that’s the real name!

  • CAN’T CATCH ME NOW: In the self defense class, the girls experimented to see which way you should run in order to avoid an attacker. They learned that you should not run to the front or back of the car, but instead to run straight!

  • STAY OUT OF THE CAR: A girl is instructed on how to grasp onto the car so that an individual cannot force her into a car.

  • BORN TO BOX: One of the RCMA girls comes out of her shell and shocks us all with her self defense skills.

  • KNEE SLAPPER: The RCMA girls practice kneeing their potential attacker as they learned that kicking is not as effective as kneeing.

  • KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS: One of the girls from RCMA demonstrates her great self defense skills while keeping a huge s4mile on her face.

  • 911, WHAT’S YOUR EMERGENCY?: At the Girls Outside self defense event, the instructor demonstrates how to accurately describe a crime scene to the police.
