Hailing from Boston, MA, senior Sravya Gurivireddygari embarks on her first (and last) year at Berkeley Prep. On a pleasant October afternoon in the kiosk, she graciously agreed to sit down and chat with me about topics such as the weather, her family and hobbies.

Q: What do you miss the most about [Boston]?

A: I miss the cold. By this time, the leaves would’ve been changing colors—so just the whole seasonal aspect.

Q: So far what is your favorite class at Berkeley and why?

A: AP Macro[economics]. I like the teacher, and it’s a fun class. I enjoy the subject.

Q: I understand you sit behind me in Econ. Disregarding inflation, recession or opportunity costs, if I handed you a check for $1000, what would you buy?

A: Probably…lots of fried dough. They put cinnamon sugar and stuff on it, and you can just eat it like that.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: I like to read. I’m a big fan of everything. One series that I really enjoyed was the Inheritance series.

Q: Ok, I have a bunch of categories. Tell me—what’s your favorite – Movie?

A:  I think the name is Jack Reacher. Another good movie is Prince of Persia.

Q: TV Show?

A: Once Upon A Time.

Q: Color?

A: Blue. Any shade of blue. Like my room in Massachusetts was all blue.

Q: Who is your biggest hero?

A: Probably my dad. I think because he’s done a lot. He came to America without much money and he just worked his way up. He didn’t have the best childhood, but he was stronger because of it. He taught me and my sister to be strong. He does stuff that a typical dad wouldn’t do. He helps my mom with cooking and the dishes and paints my sister’s and my nails. He’s awesome.

Q: I’ve never known a dad to do that!

A: Whenever I need my nails painted and my mom’s busy, my dad will be willing to do it. He’s just awesome!

Q: Is there anything else that you would like the Berkeley community to know?

A: I like to dance, like Bollywood. I did tap and ballet when I was younger, but then I shifted to Bollywood.

Q: Do you still do it now?

A: If there’s an event. I used to choreograph, but I haven’t really since I moved here.

Even though her time in Upper Division is short, Berkeley’s newest senior is sure to make an impact.  We’re happy you’re here, Sravya!
